Natural light is your best friend when it comes to product photography. If you’re shooting at home, take advantage of any large windows in your space. Early morning or late afternoon light is soft, warm, and perfect for showing off your product in its best light. But if you find yourself shooting in darker spaces or during the night, artificial lighting can come to the rescue. Softboxes or ring lights create that professional look, ensuring every detail is crisp and well-lit.
The key to styling is balance. You want the product to be the star of the show, and any props you add should complement, not overpower. So, think carefully about the props you use. Maybe a beautiful, textured fabric underneath your perfume bottle, or a delicate flower beside a luxury watch. But here’s the secret: less is more. You don’t need to overwhelm the shot with a bunch of items. One or two well-placed props are all it takes to elevate the product.
Now let’s talk angles—because the angle you choose can literally make or break the photo. The right angle will highlight your product’s best features and give it dimension. Whether it’s a sleek product like a perfume bottle or a tech gadget, the angle can make it look even more attractive.
For smaller items like jewelry or beauty products, a close-up shot is perfect. It allows you to show off intricate details and textures that would otherwise be lost in a wider shot.
But for larger products, like shoes or furniture, a slight side or low-angle shot will give it depth and presence, showing off its shape and structure. Sometimes, playing with different perspectives—like top-down shots or straight-on views—can also give you that perfect, eye-catching image.
Editing is where the magic truly happens. With the right edits, your photos can go from good to irresistible in just a few clicks. But be careful—editing should enhance, not overpower. Start by adjusting brightness and contrast. A little brightness can help make your product shine, while increasing contrast can make the details pop. But don’t go too far; you still want your product to look realistic. And don’t forget to retouch! Remove any distractions like dust, fingerprints, or smudges that can take attention away from the product. Clean, sharp photos are always more appealing.
